Lawful Lady

So my best friend, college-soul mate, Stevie just started law school last week. I decided to gather together some possible looks for her to impress her professors and fellow school mates. Stevie isn't one to sport a lot of color so I kept to neutrals but stuck in some red and navy just to give her some color. Right now pants are taking on new hems and styles. My favorite pant trend is the shorter hem on skinnies. They aren't exactly cropped but they come right above the ankle. I think they are very chic and a piece that you could dress down or up and go day to night. So I included a pair of black shorter hem skinnies that could serve as a staple in her wardrobe. I love billowy blouses with bow and ruffle embellishments-as long as there isn't too much embellishment going on I don't want her to look like a big poof. I included a shirt that had angular shoulders and ruffles to add some playfulness to the structured shirt. Another one of my favorite looks for class or work is the wide leg denim trouser with a cropped or shorter blazer. I feel like this look creates amazing lines for a slimming and chic silhouette. Michael Kors watches are amazing, I love the big faces-that way she'll be on time for class! Stevie loves Hello Kitty so I gave her some subtle studs and of course a Birkin (my latest obsession) and Starbucks to accessorize!Knock em dead

girls night out

I am so excited it's Friday-end of my last, first week of school ever, and end of my first week of teaching alone! Needless to say I am in desperate need of some down time with my girlfriends with a side of adult beverages included! Half of the excitement of girls night out is getting ready because let's face it- girls dress up more for their lady friends than their man. With the boys just throw on your favorite LBD and they are in love-with the ladies it's a different story. I put together some fun "girls night out" look ideas that are easy to throw on- to leave more time for gossip and good drinks. Cheers dolls!

tulips in the fall

Another item I have become obsessed with lately is tulip skirts--especially those with pockets! I don't know what it is but if something has pockets and is a skirt or dress I have to have it. Maybe it's because I am teaching now and it gives me a place to put my hands so I am not constantly talking with them. Tulip skirts were a huge hit this spring and summer and are definately going to be around for the fall-pair them with funky tights and boots. Tulip skirts are great because I feel like they define your waist and those with draping or a bubble bottom add an instant "something" to your outfit. The variety of colors, fabrics, and styles give you a wide range to work from and a multitude of outfits to create! Here are some ideas for you ladies who like me are going day to night, from class, to work, to out on the town!

silhouettes & studs

Sorry it has been a minute since I've gotten to write down all my fashion thoughts. Here are the most recent on my mind: silhouettes and studs. It is a transition stage right now as we are still in the hot hot heat of summer yet fall trends are already on my mind and these two I feel like you can definitely sport now but will be able to incorporate into your fresh fall wardrobe

I don't feel like studs are anything new but lately I have been seeing them all over, making their presence known more than before. Studs, grommets, metallic beading you name it. And you can find them on anything-short and jean pockets, purses, vests,belts, gloves, and shoes! I think you can pair these metallic little gems with neutral, structured, or feminine pieces to give yourself a little bit of an edge.

I have been seeing some designs that create some stunning silhouettes. I like these pencil skirts, minis, and dresses with the ruffle panel on the sides or all around the front. I think that this accentuates the waist and adds a flirty twist to your outfit.  I like it on neutral pieces and think they can be pulled off in a pattern but make sure that the top is neutral or accessories minimal. The off the shoulder is nothing new but being paired with draping and out there prints creates a slimming and sexy silhouette and ads something funky to the outfit. Paired with sky high heels and confidence to boot this trend is definately a must. And come fall pair when there is one shoulder with a long sleeve style and the ruffle skirts with tights and knee high boots you're set ladies.

Shoulders, Ankles, & Boyfriends.

Its been a while since I've posted but now that I am in my fashion education internship with Nordstrom fashion is even 

more on the brain. I want to post about some of the trends that have been on my mind lately.

 You'd have to be under a rock to not know about the

huge shoulder trend that has suddenly jumped onto the red carpet and at numerous events. Balmain and shoulder pads go hand and hand.  And we're not talking about shoulder pads circa 1980 during your mom's Dynasty days either. The shoulder pad fad from the runway is updated and a little more modern and not so intense.  It is very subtle and a little more angular than your mom's shoulder pads creating a nicer silhouette and one could easily pull this off with a modern blazer. 

I am in love with blazers right now and not because I have to dress super professional this summer for my internship. I bought a fabulous one from Zara, and it is tailored for a femnine look leaving the suit style to the men.

Another look I have been wearing and noticing on the street lately is the ankle boot transitioning from the fall and winter months being paired with cute shorts and summer time cocktail dresses. The cowboy ankle bootie is also another option for a more bohemian street look.

Lastly the baggy boyfriend tees and tanks. I am obsessed with these cotton loose fitting v neck tees and tank tops, especially the ones with the small pocket on the side.  These tees can be great over leggings running errands or you can dress them up with a statement necklace for a night out on the town.

All of these trends thrown together is one of my favorite looks right now. Throwing a blazer over the boyfriend tank with a pair of linen shorts and ankle boots with a chunky belt.

lets talk jumpsuits

So I can't decide how I feel about jumpsuits. They have been popping up a lot more lately especially with Spring sprouting some takes on the look for warmer temperatures. I used to think jumpsuit= J.Lo circa Jenny on the Block days but now as the style has evolved I've been eyeing buying one myself! I think paired with the right accessories they can look very chic. A great Spring/Summer look that can go day to night (like the Maxi dress) which are my favorite looks.  I was on Express' website a few weeks ago and saw this cute gray jumpsuit that was long pants and sleeveless. I was really sad to see that it was already gone sold out :( But I have a feeling there will not be a shortage this summer. 

The short style of the jumpsuit or a romper has caught my eye as well and I bought one from Forever21 a little while back, it is green and black with a small belt that ties. When I worked at E! on the Daily 10 in wardrobe, Catt Sadler one of our hosts was always sporting these shorty styles. So I know that the shorts look cute on my 5'2 frame with high heels but what about the long pant style? Can us shorter ladies sport them?

I feel like this trend is a little on the risky side but I feel like if you choose the appropriate style for your body type that it would turn out to be quite a sophisticated look. I will say I do not think that the thick belted waist style of the jumpsuit I am not fan of and think its quite risky for any body type (not flattering) so when shopping for this style ladies:

• look for styles that suit your body type 
  
• look for slimming silhouettes slimmer cut up top and one that slowly bells out towards the bottom (if you're wearing the pant style) 
• if you're wearing the short style...make sure its not too tight around your assets ;)
•  choose the appropriate accessories not to flashy

So Spring has sprung and I've been noticing the prints popping up everywhere as they should be.  Of course florals are huge this year but I have been finding myself wanting to not jump totally into the lilypad pond! Ive been wanting to

 pair my florals and softer prints with something a little more structured such as a cardigan, dressy structured top, or mens wear. I feel like the the hardness tempers the popping florals just enough to make you seem less like tea party princess and have a l

ittle bit of edge to your ensemble. I've been noticing starlets 

and those fashionably forward sporting

 this trend.

 Ashley Tisdale pairs a floral dress and a structured blazer black blazer and simple belt. 

This shot of City-girl Olivia Palermo was shot in Marie Claire for styling tips and paired a DVF dress with a vest, grommeted belt, and black booties.

This looks is very easy to pull off. I've been noticing in stores such as H&M or Forever21 that they are putting out floral skirts with structured waist bands or pieces alike. You could do it in seperate pieces or if you find them all together thats even a better find especially in this economy!

The minute I saw this dress at Forever21 I wanted it because it was so different and didn't look like anything else anyone had. I wore the Julianne Silk Dress with gray ankle boots. I have the dress in a blue, gray, and lilac floral print. The gold belt and pleated structured top tone down the florals.
